Turning was made as an experiment in laminating different timbers together, in blocks, then carving as if from a solid piece. It had proved important with other pieces made using this technique to use timbers with a co-efficient of expansion as close as possible – changes in temperature can quickly pull pieces like this apart. This one has survived so far. Black Oak and a u/i light coloured hardwood were used.
